2022 Honda Insight vs 2021 Honda Insight

September 2nd, 2021 by

It’s that time of the year again when car manufacturers release their plans for the immediate future, and it’s no different at Honda. The company has set a goal of producing purely electric vehicles from 2030, and they’re well on the way with the 2022 Honda Insight. Perhaps you’ve just decided to acquire this year’s model, in which case you’ve come to the right place. We’re putting up the 2022 Honda Insight vs 2021 Honda Insight to explain their differences and what you can expect. Let’s dive right in.

Honda Insight 2022 vs 2021: What’s Changed?

Honda decided to drop the LX trim for the 2022 Insight, but the remaining trims come with heaps of standard features as opposed to its predecessor. The new version is slightly heavier than 2021’s Insight by a mere 13 pounds. Both vehicles look alike, which is expected from a manufacturer that’s producing a line of vehicles. The company didn’t want to change too much and drift away from a successful recipe, so some standard features were added that weren’t available in the 2021 Honda Insight. We’ll take you through each essential aspect of the new vehicle and compare it to its predecessor.

Engine, Transmission & Fuel Economy

Similar to its previous version, the 2022 Honda Insight has a 1.5 liter gas engine alongside an electric motor. Together, it delivers 151 horsepower, which is strong enough to give you the power you need for passing by on the highway. Acceleration is swift, exactly like the 2021 model, thanks to the instant torque supply from the electric motor.

As always, Honda hybrids have a reputation for noteworthy fuel economy. The 2022 Insight delivers 55 mpg** for city driving and 49 mpg** when you’re on the highway, which is the best in its class.

Hybrid & Electric Models

Since Honda dropped the LX trim for 2022, it only features the EX and Touring models as opposed to last year’s version.

Capability, Handling, Performance

This sedan will offer you a smooth ride whether you’re in the suburbs or on the highway. The steering is rather precise and responsive. The battery pack assists the Insight in creating a low sense of gravity. You can adjust the regenerative braking system using the paddle shifters mounted on the steering for your convenience. When you use it in the most aggressive setting, it feels like you’re one-pedal driving where taking your foot off the gas slows down the vehicle.

With its 1.5-liter gas engine supplementing the electric motor, you can expect sufficient power from the 2022 Honda Insight, similar to the previous version.

Interior & Exterior Design

Honda didn’t change anything in terms of the materials on the inside. You can expect soft-touch surfaces throughout the cabin, which is littered with high-quality plastics. The car has sufficient insulation, which blocks out the noise of wind and the road sufficiently. Five people can comfortably fit in both models, and the cargo space remains the same at 15 cubic feet.

There aren’t any changes on the exterior, but you can expect chrome wheels as optional as well as a rear spoiler. Two sets of LED headlights with daytime running lights are standard in both editions. Its character lines and alloy wheels remain in place with performance-inspired LED taillights and brake lights. The refined body shape delivers an aesthetic that is unmatched by other hybrids.

Technology & Entertainment

The 2022 Honda Insight probably sets itself apart in this section from its older brother. With the new model, you can expect HD Radio and smart device integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features while the previous year doesn’t deliver these luxuries. This year’s model also has an onboard hands-free communications system.

Safety Features

Safety is always a concern with any vehicle, and both models come with a wide range of standard features. The key differences between the 2022 Honda Insight and the 2021 Honda Insight are the blind-spot monitor and cross-traffic alert available in the latest edition. However, you can enjoy a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and more on both vehicles.

Pricing

As mentioned before, the 2022 Insight is only available in two trims, the EX and Touring.

The base-level EX has a retail price of $25,210* while the Touring is available at $29,240*.
